Training in Progress

Only 24 weeks until the big walk. I'm back on track with training and hope to be able to complete all 60 miles! Any ideas for my cross-training days so that I don't get bored? Last time I was in training I was tempted to just walk every day, but after the event I realized that those cross-training days are really important! This year I'm walking at the end of my vacation so I won't have as much time to recover!!!

Please keep Susannah and Carol (Avon Walk in Chicago) and Wendy (3-Day in Seattle) in your prayers as they train and raise funds too!

Whew! I have really been busy!

I was sick for a little while, did a craft show, doing custom orders, working extra hours...so much to do & so little time! I'm not doing very well with keeping up with posts or with training or anything! School will be out in about 10 days, so then I will get SERIOUS! In the meantime I'm trying to just hold it all together...

How could I forget???

I was just reading back through past posts and realized I never gave any updates about how the walk went in NYC! Now that I am back in training I will try to put some of my memories and pictures up from that walk, which was an AMAZING experience. I'm sure it will be motivating for me to remember the emotion of the whole thing. I am starting back on my eating and walking plan on Saturday...less than a year until my 60 Mile Journey!

Gearing up for the next walk!

I'm just getting plans started for my next walk!  This time I am going to do the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure in Michigan, in August of 2010.  I have 11 months to get ready!!!

Quick Update!

Sorry I haven't given an update in awhile, but here's a quick one: I have been training like mad!!! I've lost about 30 lbs so far & I'm walking a TON! I'll try to post a link to my training plan soon so you can walk along with me! I'm on schedule for walking a marathon and a half (39.3) miles in October in New York City. My first walkathon is the Williamson County Relay for Life on June 13-14. I'm on the Neoplastic Eliminators team & we've raised a good chunk of money already. After that walk I will be working like crazy on my fundraising for the the Avon Walk! Also, my cousin Amber is doing the 3-Day in Atlanta this fall. I'll post a link to her info too. More memories, training info, etc coming soon! Let's KILL CANCER, huh?!!!

Taking an Interest...

Something I learned from Aunt Lill is that one way to show people that you care about them is to take interest in them. When I became a vegetarian I met with a lot of resistance/disbelief/ anger/etc from the people around me. Aunt Lill was different. She asked a lot of questions & seemed very respectful of my decision. When I went through my Urban Cow(girl) stage in elementary school, she never teased me. She never blinked during my punk rock days. She never tried to change me even though I'm sure sometimes she must have thought I was a nut! (Which is undoubtedly true ;-) She had specific ideas about how to live & act, but never seemed to pull away from me no matter how different I was/am. I'm sure she still keeps an interested eye on me to see what's next!
